Our Yellowstone Camping Trip

We had a lot of fun tenting it in the Tetons July 17-20.  We stayed at the Colter Bay Campground.  We love it there because it has a small grocery store, restaurant, showers, etc...you know, all the necessities just in case.  It was really dirty and it was hard to keep the kids clean but they loved it.  It got a little chilly during the night but the kids were in 0 degree sleeping bags and they were fine but me in my 40 degree bag not so fine but I survived.  It was about in the 30's at night.  But 70's during the day was great!  

We drove to Yellowstone Park to see Old Faithful and other geysers & hot pots at West Thumb.  Alex thought they were awesome.  We also saw our only big animal of our trip, a buffalo, at West Thumb (we saw lot of chipmunks and ducks).  

The next day we headed to Jenny Lake to hike to Hidden Falls.  The kids were troopers throughout the 3 mile hike and the waterfall was awesome and gushing very fast.  It is amazing that there is that much snow still melting in the mountains.  We took the boat ride back across Jenny Lake.  We stopped along the way to get a picture with the Tetons in the background.  I first asked a German man to take our picture and he took one of us with just trees behind us...hello!  Don't you think we want the mountains behind us, that is why everyone is stopped here you know, to look at the amazing mountain range.  We had to bother another person for a better picture.

We ended our night by walking thru the Colter Bay museum and dipping our toes in Jackson Lake.  The kids were a little upset the couldn't fully get in.  It was a fun family trip and many people were amazed we stayed in a tent and yet we survived.  Alex loved the geysers and building a campfire with dad.  Kirsten loved our boat ride across Jenny Lake.  Kate loved throwing dirt and rocks.  I told you it was dirty fun.
